Line of inquiry 1: An inquiry into how nutrition, exercise and rest helps our bodies stay healthy
The children researched the five main food groups and investigated how these foods give us the right nutrition for our bodies to function. The children also learnt about human skeletons and how bones and muscles work together.
Year 3 children then took knowledge from their science learning and gave advice to some characters in a story about how to make healthier eating choices.
Line of inquiry 2: An inquiry into what helps people make healthy lifestyle choices
Through the lens of PSHE, the children thought about habits and how we can include healthier choices about food and exercise into our routines.
The children then used their existing knowledge of human food groups and made connections about this to animals. They researched animal food classes and how animals find their food.
Pupils then went on to research information about people in the Stone Age and how they found the food they needed to stay strong and healthy by hunting and gathering.
Line of inquiry 3: An inquiry into how our choices can impact our physical and emotional well-being
Children studied the importance of sleep and rest to help our bodies and minds to grow and develop. They looked at different stages of childhood and how they will change over time.
Pupils then went on to discover the rituals and beliefs that Stone Age people had to help them through different life stages including birth and death.
Line of inquiry 4: An inquiry into how individuals take responsibility for their own health and well-being
The children culminated their learning from the term to help them create a healthy lifestyle plan they could put into practice for a healthy future. Pupils also thought about who they could turn to for help and advice when making healthy choices.
As part of DT, pupils researched, designed and made a healthy snack in the form of 'Owl Toast'. They thought about what it means to be healthy and how they could use this knowledge for their product - it was delicious!
The children have made a positive start to their Year 3 journey and thank you for your support with their learning so far. We hope you have a restful half term break and we look forward to seeing you in Term 2.
