Line of Inquiry 1: An inquiry into what families, friends and a school community gives us as a sense of belonging.
The children focused upon settling into their new routines in Reception, exploring the Reception environment as well as forming friendships with their new friends.
The children explored how they belong to their families and school community. We looked at how families come in different shapes and sizes and we know that even though we are unique we have things in common.
Line of Inquiry 2: An inquiry into how the roles and actions of our family, friends and class makes us feel.
We looked at The Colour Monster series and we explored the different types of emotions, and what makes us feel this way. We also looked at some of the action we take can affect how others feel, and discussed how we could then rectify this into a positive outcome.
We talked about the emotions we felt when we first started school compared to now and how we can feel different emotions throughout the day depending on what has happened. We have been able to explain how we are feeling and what made us feel this way and were able to identify what can turn this feeling around to make us then feel better.
Line of Inquiry 3: An inquiry into how the relationships we build make us feel like we belong.
We looked at the artist Van Gogh and were all inspired by his work. We then painted our self portraits in his style.
Finishing our text on 'The Colour Monster Goes to School', we moved on to the story of 'Owl Babies'. Through rich discussions the children are able to reflect on how they felt joining school back in September, to now, the impact this has had and it is positive. The children can confidently talk about their feelings and emotions and what is special about "belonging" to the school community.
We ended the term on a high with our first PYP session where the children enjoyed showcasing their learning to their parents and carers. Thank you to everyone who came, we are extremely proud of how the children have settled into academy life.
