Read lots of journal articles in the field you're interested in
Talk to faculty who teach in the area you are interested in researching
Look at this list of undergraduate journals and their requirements (or find other journals)
Talk to faculty who teach in the area you are interested in researching
Ask yourself if this is the right publishing outlet for your goals (vs. policy recommendation or think piece, etc.)
Be honest with the time you can devote to research
Avoid rushing or submitting a generic term paper
Expect rejection
