Induction Peer Mentor Responsibilities

The mentor’s main responsibility is to provide just-in-time as well as “longer term” support to their candidate. Mentors attend monthly required core professional growth activities during the first semester to prepare them for meeting their roles and responsibilities. Additional monthly professional growth activities are required in the second semester for those wishing to earn units.

As a mentor in TCSJ’s Induction program, the expectation of the program is that each mentor understands and agrees to abide by the following roles and responsibilities:

Induction Mentor Support Logs

To support our mentors in meeting with their candidate and providing the required support, mentors complete and submit a Mentor Support Log monthly. If a mentor does not submit a log or is not meeting their responsibilities, the TCSJ Induction Coordinator contacts the mentor.

Induction Mentor Training

Mentors receive initial and ongoing training to assist them in carrying out their roles and responsibilities. All mentors are required to complete the Welcome/Program Overview Module and Assignment in Canvas. All mentors will be required to attend/review a mentor orientation seminar and a coaching training session. Mentors will also submit required assignments in Canvas and will have access to a Google Site with resources to support their mentor coaching.

LUSD Compensation Options

If you are planning to earn professional development units at TCSJ by enrolling in Supporting New Teachers – Techniques and Application I or II, you will need to submit a Unit Advancement form.  This form should be submitted electronically by the link provided prior to beginning the course.
