TE KAUPAPA
Te Whare Angitu is an innovative approach to teaching and learning for Uri. We will be providing Uri with a range of opportunities to become Uri Whai Tukuihotanga, Uri Whai Matauranga and Uri Whai Oranga. These opportunities complement the in-kura learning and experiences provided by our Kura and Kaiako.
Te Whare Angitu delivers online and wānanga learning across a range of kaupapa to support our Kura and Uri ki te Whai Mana Motuhake. Our Mātāpono guide how we teach and learn within Te Whare Angitu, and we have high expectations for our kaimahi, kaiako and Uri who engage with our courses.
MĀ WAI ĒNEI HŌTAKA ?
We are currently focusing on NCEA pathways for our Uri in kura tuarua. Uri who want to enrol in our programmes should be:
passionate about learning
committed to working in innovative ways - online, through wānanga ā kanohi, and independently
working at level 5 of the curriculum in Te Reo Māori and level 4 in English. Some courses require level 5 of the curriculum in numeracy
digitally literate
academically ready to study at Level 1 NCEA
supported by their kura
Our programmes are not 'year level' specific and are focused on providing learning to any Uri who is ready. Uri will be expected to meet entrance criteria before they can enrol.
We will prioritise Uri who do not have a specialist Pūrau (STEM) subject teacher at NCEA level at their kura.
At this stage, we are limiting the number of Uri who can enrol from each kura to five.
KURA ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR...
REQUIRED ACADEMIC LEVEL
The success of our learning initiatives is dependent on our kura.
We encourage our kura to ensure that our Uri are at the recommended academic levels for the following Level 1 NCEA initiatives:
ToA Tiaki Taiao:
Te Reo Matatini - curriculum Level 5, English Literacy - curriculum Level 4
ToA Rakahinonga:
As above for Tiaki Taiao PLUS numeracy at curriculum Level 5
Level 2 courses
Uri will be expected to successfully complete the Level 1 Te Whare Angitu course to be accepted into any Level 2 course.
Uri will also need a good level of digital navigational skills to engage successfully online.
If Uri are not yet at these levels, then Kura should support them to progress ready for applying for our courses in future years.
ENROLMENT PROCESS
We encourage kura to support our uri throughout the enrolment process, including:
Helping Uri complete online forms
Completing the Kura endorsement form
Providing Te Whare Angitu any academic information required
Answering or forwarding to us any pātai that Uri have
Helping Uri to understand the commitment required to complete the course
Supporting Uri, where appropriate, with any entrance tasks
TE KAWA ANGITU
Once an uri is accepted, Te Whare Angitu will engage with the kura a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU): Te Kawa Angitu. This MoU outlines in detail the following key support mechanisms that will ensure a successful uri exeperince:
Providing Uri with a suitable device, Wi-Fi connection and a quiet space to participate in online lessons
Organising transport to and from wānanga ā kanohi
Allocating a Kaitakawaenga who will provide in person, regular support for Uri enrolled in our programmes. They will also be the key contact person for Te Whare Angitu kaimahi. The Kaitakawaenga will be expected to accompany Uri to wānanga ā-kanohi.
Kura will be asked to sign and MOU, Te Kawa Angitu when an Uri is accepted into a Te Whare Angitu course.
