Happy October!
I hope you are enjoying the feel of fall in the air...football, pumpkins, all things apple...and possibly conferences. To help in that regard, I have linked Every Child Can Read guidance (English and Spanish) below, as 3rd grade teachers are required to provide specific information related to literacy risk and responsive instruction for their students. You will also see below an exciting opportunity for teachers to participate in a panel discussion next week on Tuesday, October 8th at 4:00pm with Dr. Tiffany Hogan and Kansas eductors via Zoom on the topic of DLD (Developmental Language Disorder). Below you will be able to access a recording of her session September 24th and I have also included a link below if you have questions you would like the panel to consider (as time allows).
Please share this newsletter widely and let me know if you have questions or need additional support. If you know of someone who wants to sign up to get this newsletter automatically , they can do that by emailing a request to ELitDyslexia@ksde.org.

Important Updates from KSDE
As conferences get underway, I have included a copy of the KSDE guidance for the Every Child Can Read Act. That legislation went into effect last year, so there is nothing new here. Reviewing the guidance for information parents receive and information and data districts provide at the end of the school year may be helpful. Below you will find those guidance documents in both English and Spanish.

Looking for Accommodations?
Do you have a student intern or new teacher you are mentoring? This document "Dyslexia in the Classroom: What Every Teacher Needs to Know" is a great resource for all teachers and may be especially important to share with our new teachers or those who are working with students who may be struggling in acquiring literacy skills. While this is not a newly published document, it is helpful in providing practical guidance for educators. Are you seeking accommodations that you can use to meet the needs of your students to reach their potential? Check out the information on p. 7-10 and share those ideas with others. These ideas may provide assistance when working on dififierentiating in your classroom, developing 504 plans or providing meaningful goals on an IEP.
