WATCH SUMMIT & WORKSHOP VIDEOS
Our kūpuna had many ways to carefully prepare before engaging in any practice. To help align intentions with actions, we humbly share the following resources created to enhance your experience and time you have set aside to join our Ka Waiwai No Nā Kūpuna Summit & Workshops.
ʻAʻohe pau ka ʻike i ka hālau hoʻokahi.
All knowledge is not taught in the same school.
One can learn from many sources.
Pukui - ʻŌlelo Noʻeau # 203
As you immerse yourself in the following resources, we ask that you keep in mind that the practices shared are just one variation or way to engage. In Hawaiʻi protocols, practices and ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) terms can vary depending on the kumu (teacher), the island or even the district where it comes from. We also recall that culture is never stagnant and continually evolves to meet the times in which it is practiced. What remains constant is the aloha and positive intention with which these practices are shared.
Hiʻuwai is a practice of release or cleansing by water. This cultural practice is treated as a ceremony and is an opportunity to release all that needs to be let go and start anew.
Join Hawaiian cultural practitioner Kanani Aton as she shares her manaʻo (thoughts) and experiences regarding the Hawaiian culture-based practice of hiʻuwai.
We hope that the sharing of this cultural knowledge inspires you to try this practice for yourself.

There are many ways to prepare oneself mentally and spiritually to meet each day; Morning Gatherings are just one way to bring people together to acknowledge the land and its people, set intentions, share personal thoughts or inspiration and lift the energy through song!
Join Nani Dudoit and staff of Kamehameha Schools as they share their take on this daily cultural practice in two informative videos and many resources which are free for you to use in your own respectful way.
We encourage you to join us between Sunday 27 - March 3, 2022 as we hope to create a shared worldwide experience of Hiʻuwai. We celebrate the inclusion of other cultural practices that bring our collective community to a space of total well-being.
Spread the aloha! We invite anyone wanting to share their hiʻuwai experience with others to post a picture and/or reflection on our group padlet.
On SUMMIT DAY March 4th we will begin with our WEHENA ("opening, unfastening, or taking off"). This will include a MORNING GATHERING practice with YOU!
We hope you will use the resources including the VIDEOS to familiarize yourself with this practice so that you can join along with us!
Also included for you are both the OLI or "chant" and MELE or "song" that will be used during our Virtual Morning Gathering practice.
