Fourier Analysis of Display Pixel Structure
Abstract:
The influence of display pixel structures on image quality is analyzed using Fourier spectrum analysis. Primarily, a frequency transfer function for a display is modeled on the basis of the system theory and a modified contrast sensitivity function of the human visual system. Using the developed model, influences of the black stripe size, or non-emission region, of a pixel on display quality are examined using a spectral energy metric. Furthermore, the model is applied to different types of pixel shapes; those shapes' display qualities are judged by the same metric. The simulation is carried out for the high resolutions (full high definition, ultra high definition, and quad high definition) of the current displays in DTV and mobile applications.
