Description:
For my Capstone project, I decided to focus on the global issue of the lack of youth access to the arts, specifically theater programs. Personally, the theater has become my safe space, a place to express and feel at home with myself, and I believe all students deserve to have this connection to the arts if they so choose. The fundraiser I settled on to help this cause was a Royal Tea Party that went in tandem with the KM production of Beauty and the Beast. The funds from the event went directly to the Pink Umbrella Theater Co., an organization in Milwaukee that promotes and provides accessible theater for all, along with the KM Drama Club. I worked on every aspect of the event, from marketing to coordinating my 25 volunteers to creating costumes for the royals to wear and so much more. Through my capstone, I gained an understanding of the value of my surrounding community and how even a 17-year-old can make an impact on something important to them if they are willing to put in the time. I am continuing to learn how the arts can change lives, spark passions, and give inspiration to those who seek it. The 600 dollars raised, through ticket sales and donations, along with the 65 attendees of the Royal Tea Party, are proof of this impact. Description:

Meetings

These hours were dedicated to the time spent planning my capstone project. I had several meeting with the director and marketing manager of the Beauty and the Beast production. I had virtual meetings with the Executive Director of Pink Umbrella Theater Co. to make sure I was meeting all her needs and requirements. Overall, I mainly spent time in meetings with director of Global to work though all the details of this project.
Marketing

The time I spent marketing the Royal Tea Party include a variety of tasks. The most time consuming tasks include designing the flyer, managing my online ticket sales, and putting flyers out in the community.
Volunteer Coordination

These hours were spent organizing volunteers into groups based on skills, communicating with my volunteer leaders about fundraiser needs, and having meetings with all my volunteers to make sure they felt confident with their tasks. In addition, I spent time creating detailed schedules for each volunteer group along with lists of expectations and necessities.
Costuming

Many of the outfits for the royals I put together myself. I spent time pulling outfits, hemming, and creating costumes from scratch.
Collecting Supplies

This time was mainly spent out in the community gathering supplies for the event day. I collected donations of decorations from family members, friends, and teachers. For all the supplies not donated, I shopped at Casco, Five Below, and other stores.
Event Day

Before the event began I decorated, made sure all my volunteers understood their tasks, and put final touches on the royal costumes. During the event, I made introductions, gave thank you speech's, served food, and overall monitored the event. After the event, much time was spent cleaning the space used.
