Kettle Moraine Global, 2018 - 2022
Throughout my high school experience, I have had the opportunity to expand and dive into my passions. The passion that I believe defines me the most is my love of the arts. I am a passionate abstract artist who has developed a deep love for theater and theatrical costuming. I have been a costumer for 14+ shows at Kettle Moraine High School and have taken on the leadership position of head costumer for seven of these shows. I have learned valuable skills from how to work under pressure to how to embrace my imagination skills and abstract ideas in all aspects of my life. The theater community has become my safe space; a place to express and feel at home with myself. I am also extremely passionate about social justice within my school, community, and the greater world. This passion lead me to become an original member of the Unity Club started at Kettle Moraine High School Fall of 2020. This club has given a platform for students, such as myself, to spread awareness of the inequities of marginalized groups within my school and beyond. An example of my work within this passion includes taking part in multiple Student Climate & Culture discussions with school staff and administrators. These discussions communicated the major problems I have seen and experienced as a student at Kettle Moraine along with potential working solutions. The equity of treatment and resources for all people in the United States will continue to be an important passion of mine. Other passions of mine include reading, skiing, exploring nature, traveling, and history.
It is extremely important to me to be an active member of my school and external community. One of the main ways I engage in my community is through volunteering. My favorite volunteer experience was having the opportunity to help out at the Delafield Public Library and the Wales Elementary School Library. I was able to spend about 20 hours at the two libraries teaching elementary students about the library systems, shelving books, and putting together community care kits. Another large role I play in my community is on the KM Global Student Advisory Board as a student representative. As a student representative, my main job is to be the middle ground of communication between my peers and teachers. I have helped lead student-to-student listening sessions where my peers can give feedback about KM Global without the pressure of a teacher being in the room. As a part of the board, I have also had the opportunity to gain leadership positions; such as running the KM Global Instagram account. From running the account I gained knowledge about the importance of professional communication along with how to get the external community engaged in my school. These types of opportunities have given me the chance to spend time making my school and external community a better, and more connected, place.
Ever since I was in elementary school I knew I wanted to have a career that would help improve the world around me. As I have grown and my passions have developed I have been drawn into pursuing the arts after high school. Because I know how important both of these factors are to me I hope to pursue a career that includes both. At this time I am planning to study Art History and/or Anthropology in college. I hope to use these majors as a gateway into becoming a museum curator. With this career, I would use my position to support the next generation of artists and bring awareness to the communities that are less represented in the arts. After college, I also plan to join the Peace Corps for a few years along with taking time to travel the world. Overall, I aspire for a life full of adventure, art, and community service.
