Grade 12 Fall Trip Summary: August 28 - 30, 2019
KIS high school has developed an amazing opportunity for our students to experience a classroom without walls. We will be taking all the high school students out to explore and learn in the beautiful natural areas of Korea. We will leave KIS around 8:15am on the morning of Wednesday August 28th and will return to KIS Friday, August 30th. We will return Friday at 2:30pm to ensure students can ride the bus home. Our grade 12 students will be going to Seoraksan.
Although we will not be on campus during this time, it will be considered typical school days. These learning opportunities are a vital part of the high school curriculum and adhere to our school wide goals. Grade 12 students will be working in small groups to accomplish transdisciplinary activities and will be accompanied by their teachers and guides who are there to help facilitate the activities throughout the day.
Students will be transported by school-arranged busing. The school insurance will cover your student while we are out in the field, just like it does here at school. We will have medical personnel on each trip, along with many staff certified in first aid and CPR to take care of any minor medical issues that may arise.
In the TRIP RESOURCES section of this page you will find links to a packing list, itinerary, and all other information you will need to have a safe and enjoyable trip. Permission forms will be sent directly to parents via email and text.
Thank you for supporting this exciting, experiential education trip. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

The Class of 2018 experienced a classroom without walls as students explored the natural beautiful of South Korea. The 3-day trip expanded each student's comfort zone through rock climbing, river rafting, and hiking.
These challenges strengthened the bonds of our class and established a supportive culture for a seniors to thrive during their transition year at KIS toward their university goals. The highly organized staff ensured that each adventure was safe with certified personnel in first aid and CPR.
During the 3-day adventure, students participated academic topics related to their transdisciplinary activities as a core component of their high school curriculum. Each advisor facilitated the academic discussion that will expand throughout the year.
One of the pillars of the EE experience is community connection through service. Each day the students worked side by side with the special residents at Aehyangwon, who are mentally challenged. The students put on workshops in dance, music and art. The students worked with the residents to produce crafts and facilitated a rousing round of balloon sports. The final day of the expedition was a celebration of the good times and an emotional farewell.
