1) How did this experience assist you in identifying your goals and developing areas of growth?
Painting the walls of the children’s home showed me how important it is to help others and use creativity to make a difference. It made me realize that I want to get better at art and learn how to be more patient, especially when things don’t go as planned. This experience helped me set goals to improve my art skills and to be more adaptable in difficult situations.
2) What challenges did you have in this experience? Which skills did you develop?
One of the biggest challenges was the language barrier, which made it hard to communicate with the children and understand their requests. We also didn’t have a lot of painting experience, which made the task even more difficult. Another problem was the lack of proper tools and resources, so we had to get creative and use whatever we could find. Painting on high walls was also tricky because we had to use stepladders and walk through plants and mud. Despite these challenges, I developed problem-solving skills and learned to improvise with what was available.
3) What did you learn by initiating your CAS experience/project that you can use again?
By starting the painting project, I learned how important it is to plan ahead and be ready for unexpected challenges. Even though we faced some difficulties, we managed to create something beautiful for the children. This experience taught me that with teamwork and creativity, we can overcome obstacles, and these are lessons I can use in future projects.
4) How did you show commitment and perseverance? In what ways did you gain skills?
We showed commitment by sticking with the project even when it got tough. Climbing ladders and working in less-than-ideal conditions wasn’t easy, but we didn’t give up. We kept going until the walls were fully painted, and then we cleaned up everything to leave the place neat and tidy. This experience helped me gain practical skills in painting and also taught me the importance of seeing a project through to the end.
5) In what ways did you gain skills of working collaboratively?
Working together as a team was key to getting the painting done. We had to communicate well, especially when dealing with the language barrier and figuring out how to reach the high walls. We also supported each other by sharing tasks and helping out whenever someone struggled. This experience improved my teamwork skills and showed me how much more we can accomplish when we work together.
6) Which issues of global significance are you engaged with in making decisions and taking actions?
This project made me more aware of the importance of supporting underprivileged communities. By creating a brighter, more welcoming environment for the children, we addressed the larger issue of improving the quality of life for those who may not have many resources. This experience reminded me that even small actions can have a positive impact on a global scale.
7) How are you recognizing and considering the ethics of choices and actions in this experience?
We made sure to consider the ethical implications of our work by being respectful of the children’s space and ensuring that we left everything clean and organized. We also focused on safety, especially when using ladders and working in tricky areas. This experience taught me the importance of making ethical choices, such as being careful and considerate, in all my actions.
