Experience Reflection:
1) How did this experience assist you in identifying your goals and developing areas of growth?
Cooking made me realize how important it is to be able to make my own meals and try new things in the kitchen. It also helped me understand the value of eating healthy. Through this experience, I set goals to get better at cooking, explore different recipes, and learn more about nutrition to make healthier meals.
2) What challenges did you have in this experience? Which skills did you develop?
One challenge was following recipes correctly, especially when I wasn’t familiar with certain ingredients or cooking steps. Another challenge was managing time, as some dishes needed careful timing to avoid overcooking or burning. I developed better time management, learned to be more patient, and got better at working with different ingredients. I also improved my organization skills in the kitchen.
3) What did you learn by initiating your CAS experience/project that you can use again?
By starting this cooking experience, I learned that preparation is key. I now know that reading through a recipe first and gathering all the ingredients before starting makes cooking much smoother. This is something I can use in future cooking projects or any task that requires careful planning.
4) How did you show commitment and perseverance? In what ways did you gain skills?
I showed commitment by sticking with the process, even when things didn’t go perfectly. For example, if a dish didn’t turn out as expected, I would try again and make adjustments. This experience taught me perseverance and helped me improve my cooking techniques.
5) In what ways did you gain skills of working collaboratively?
When cooking with others in my family, we had to communicate and coordinate our efforts. For example, one person would prepare the vegetables while another managed the stove. This experience helped me develop teamwork skills and showed me how working together makes cooking more efficient and enjoyable.
6) Which issues of global significance are you engaged with in making decisions and taking actions?
Cooking made me think about the importance of reducing food waste and choosing healthy, sustainable ingredients. By being mindful of these choices, I’m contributing to better global practices in food consumption and sustainability.
7) How are you recognizing and considering the ethics of choices and actions in this experience?
I considered ethics by using fresh, local ingredients and avoiding waste. I also made sure to clean up after cooking and leave the kitchen in good condition. This experience taught me to make responsible choices that respect both the food I cook and the environment.
