Shinty in the Ardnamurchan sunshine

Twelve shinty players from the High school travelled through to Ardnamurchan High School yesterday for the Donella Crawford Girls’ Shinty 6 aside competition. Our two teams were in different groups, one playing five games and the other six.

Sixth year pupil Fin Anderson looked after one of the teams and they started really well with a 2-1 victory over Lochaber with Gabi and Rebecca scoring. However, it was Jill and Kelsey who were the stars of this game with their superb defensive work. In their next game the dynamic Leah powered the team to a 6-0 thrashing over one of the three Ardnamurchan teams. The next game was a narrow loss to a strong Plockton team, before a great game against Woodmill High school from Dunfermline. Despite losing 2-1, there were heroics in goal from Rebecca and superb persistent forward play from goal scorer,Amy. The final game was a loss to a very experienced Portree team.

The other team with the red strips started with a narrow 2-3 loss to Ardnamurchan (Hope and Sara scoring), before an 8-0 demolition of Oban. this featured 2 from Kirsty, 2 from brand new shinty player Katie, and 4 ( the first goal being a real “screamer”)from ace forward Sara. The next game was a 1-0 win over Portree, with the defence of Millie and Ellie being the key players in this game. They also played really well in the next game, a 1-1 draw with Uddingston, where we only lost due to a last minute kicked goal (which unfortunately the referee didn’t spot). Their final game was a superb performance in a 1-0 loss to eventual winners Culloden.

All the girls were superb in terms of their attitude, effort and behaviour, both on and off the pitch. Even their singing to Abba and Queen in the mini-bus was impressive!

iDEA Awards

Congratulations to both Oscar MiIbauer and Andrew Nowacki who worked incredibly hard on their iDEA award over the October break. Oscar is now the 2nd student at Kingussie High School to achieve the Silver Award and Andrew is well on his way to achieving it soon after getting the Bronze Award.

It really is a fantastic award that highlights a huge range of digital skills used in a range of careers. It can be hard to show potential employers your digital skills but taking along your iDEA Record of Achievement and certificate can give you that extra edge!

KHS Senior hockey team through to the Semi Final of the Aspire Cup!!!

After losing our first game to a fantastic Renfrewshire combined schools team, the girls were brilliant in our second game of the pool stage which ended a 0-0 draw against Millburn. The girls played some brilliant hockey in the Millburn game and had numerous chances to win it but just couldn’t get the ball in the net.

To decide who would go through from our pool in 2nd place we had a penalty shoot out against Millburn. We won it in sudden death with Kimara making some brilliant saves and Katie and Hannah scoring two penalties!

The girls then faced Dingwall in the 3rd/4th play off where they won 1-0 with a superb Katie Lowther goal after some great passing and dribbling from our own half!

The girls were brilliant all day and did themselves and the school proud!!

Bring on the Semi Final in February!!! 🏑🏑

S1 football festival at the Aviemore astro pitch

Along with Grantown G.S, we hosted the latest S1 football festival at the Aviemore astro pitch on Wednesday afternoon. Freezing temperatures and low mist greeted the players from Inverness Royal Academy, Charleston Academy and Lochaber High School. The K.H.S boys turned in a number of really gutsy performances against these large schools and were unfortunate not to pick up any points. Keeper Jamie Y made save after save, while defenders, Archie, Lewis, Oscar and Carrick, never stopped battling away. Midfielders, Alfie, Ollie, Andrew, Jamie J. and Ricards deserve loads of credit for their willingness to chase and tackle. Charlie and Jason, struggled to see much of the ball in these games, but really shone in the exciting 1-1 draw against local rivals, Grantown. Jason certainly deserved his spectacular goal. Manager of the tournament was Mr Ash for his tactical genius in the last game, while player of the tournament was Carrick for his determination. 17/11/19
