In the SAKG garden, winter into spring is a time of patience and persistence, as plants grow more slowly in the cooler weather. Students have been showing their curiosity and enthusiasm while planting and tending to crops that thrive in this season. Our garden beds are filling with hearty cabbages, oranges, and leafy greens such as silverbeet and pak choy. We’ve also started short crops like beetroot, spring onion, and broad beans—perfect for harvesting in the months ahead.
Students have loved getting their hands dirty, discovering wiggly worms as they dig, and caring for our hens along the way. They are practising Habits of Mind such as striving for accuracy in planting, thinking flexibly as they problem-solve in the garden, and remaining open to continuous learning as they watch nature at work.
It’s a wonderful reminder that the garden isn’t just about growing food—it’s about growing together. Take a look at what we’ve been up to!
