The original goal of this Field Period was to learn how to plan, execute, and evaluate the Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trip through the Center for Spiritual Life at Keuka College. The spread of COVID-19, however, led us to the decision to cancel the trip due to the uncertainty of when we would be returning back to campus after spring break. It was devastating, given how much we worked on planning the trip only to have it cancelled the day before. I was still committed to making an impact in others' lives. This Field Period showed me just how much can change in a short period of time, but that it is up to those in the leadership positions whether or not to abandon or continue with their mission. In the end, I chose to create a social media event that promoted the campus community at Keuka College.
In the midst of the COVID-19 virus, state and federal governments urge people to stay in their homes and not visit others unless absolutely necessary. Isolation, self-quarantine, and social distancing can easily disconnect us to others. The purpose of this event was to connect our community members, even if we are separate from each other. Participants were asked to post a picture of them decked-out in "wolfgear." The individuals with the most creative posts would receive a prize.
The video to the left shows the participants that made this campaign a success.
To the right is the poster I made to get others interested in the Alternative Spring Break trip. The QR code linked to a survey that students completed if they wanted to attend. It gave me great practice in advertising and promoting events.
The Summary Paper below explains what I have learned throughout this experience using the Kolb Model. It is split into two sections: the first describing my experiences before we moved to online instruction and the second is after our transition. You will find that each section describes my learning through concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation.
My Daily Journal describes my day-to-day experiences during my Field Period.
The Time Sheet below shows the hours I completed my Field Period in. The hours span from October of 2019 to May of 2020.
