News and Announcements
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
Final assessments will be administered in all courses. Final assessments are required.
Some Final Assessments occur over time before Exam Periods. The Exam Period is still a required course meeting to hand this assignment in and hold a final critique/checkout procedure.
Students are expected to remain in the scheduled class period for the duration of the testing period.
Students may be exempt from school for the makeup/remediation portion as well as the FLEX period as long as the following criteria are met:
Students are passing all course competencies
The teacher has not requested the student
Students have a written dismissal note (paper or email) on file with the main office for FLEX periods. Emails should be sent to: hsattendance@kearsarge.org
Make-up Final Assessments will only be administered to students with valid, documented absences and approved by an administrator.
Students in CRTC will follow the exam schedule above. Any conflicts that create absences at CRTC will be excused.
Students are expected to be present for each of their classes during these dates. An unexcused absence from a final assessment period will result in a zero for the work due that day. Students will not be allowed to make up the work if this occurs.
Students who need to reschedule an assessment for another day should pick up an exam rescheduling form from the main office.
Buses will run at regular times. Please note that June 18th is a half-day and is to be used for any emergency make-up final assessments; this is not for any remediation. Any emergency makeup final assessments must be approved by an administrator and worked out with the teacher in advance. No remediation will be available on June 18th.
STUDENTS FAILING COURSES and/or COMPETENCIES:
KRHS does not offer summer school
Students who end the year with a numerical score of below 2.0 in a class required for graduation will need to take the course over. Options include taking the course the following year at Kearsarge or through VLACS.
Students who do not pass a competency may be eligible to remediate that competency to earn credit in their course. Students should make individual plans with their teacher(s). All remediation must be completed by the end of the school year
All course competencies must be met by year's end to earn course credit. Students not earning course credit will be re-enrolled in the course for the following school year.
Summer is a great time for students to explore what their future might look like—and one of the best ways to do that is by visiting college campuses and workplaces. These visits give students a chance to picture themselves in different environments, whether it’s a busy college quad or a hands-on job site. They can help students figure out what they like, what they don’t, and what steps they might need to take to reach their goals. Even just walking around a campus, talking to current students, or seeing a job in action can spark ideas and excitement for the future. We encourage families to make time for these visits—it’s a fun and meaningful way to support your student’s journey after high school!
Congratulations to junior Josefina Eliessetch, who is the Second Place winner of the 2025 Brodsky Prize for Excellence in Student Journalism! She will receive a $1,000 prize. In addition to regularly contributing to the Kearsarge News Hub, Josefina has written a column for the Intertown Record throughout this school year, earning ELO credit for her work. She plans to continue her column through the summer and next school year. Josefina also participated in the Harvard Crimson Journalism Summit last month, on April 5 & 6. Excellent work, Josefina!

Lilah Bartholomew also won a silver medal for her writing portfolio in the Scholastic National Writing Contest. The contest included 110,000 participants from students across the United States and Canada. Out of all the participants, six students were awarded a gold portfolio, and six were awarded a silver portfolio, placing Bartholomew in the top 12 entries. Her portfolio included two poems, two short stories and two pieces of flash fiction. Bartholomew will receive her award during a ceremony in New York in June.
Senior Luna Landers recently published her first novel, Dead Man's Bridge as the final product for her graduate portfolio. The historical fiction novel is the plight of an Irish Catholic family throughthe 20th Century as they navigate the struggles of love, grief and faith. She began writing this story inspired by her family history in October and published it on May 4th. Click the link to purchase a copy of your own!
A group of French students traveled to France for nine days. Two days were spent in Paris taking in sights, such as Notre Dame Cathedral, the Catacombs, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and l’Arc de Triomphe. The tour group spent a day at the palace of Versailles, then traveled to the Loire Valley via Chartres to see castles (chateaux) and cathedrals. Further south, students toured Roman-built aqueducts and amphitheaters. The trip also included a day trip to Cassis with a boat ride around the Calanques, Nice and Monaco. Many baguettes and cups of gelato were consumed!
Celebrating Multilingual Excellence!
We are proud to announce that four of our students will be receiving the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy Award this year! Congratulations to Ngan Tran, Greg Huang, Fiorella Covo Marrugo, and Matthew Pacheco for their outstanding achievement in demonstrating proficiency in two languages.
This award not only celebrates their hard work and dedication but also the rich linguistic and cultural diversity they bring to our school community. A special thanks to Michelle Marzelli, our Seal of Biliteracy coordinator, whose support helped guide these students to success, and to Señora Perez for her dedication and excellence in teaching Spanish—your impact makes a difference every day!
Pictured here are the New London Service Organization and the four receiving Seniors, Jada Kendrigan, Liam Miller, Luna Landers, and Abigail Griswold received a $2000 scholarship and attended a gathering Thursday, May 22nd to celebrate.
If your child is getting a physical between now and August, please remember to ask for a copy to be sent to the school. One is required for four years, but it's important to let us know of any health changes. If they are planning on playing a sport in the fall, make sure those physicals are uploaded into Final Forms, but also please send a copy to have in the health office.
Project CLIMB will be hiking the Webster-Jackson trail and summiting 4,052 foot Mt Jackson. This trip was planned by CLIMB Senior, Ben Clough, as part of his ELO Opportunity at the high school.
