News and Announcements
Dear Parents & Guardians:
The purpose of this letter is to touch upon the close of the first semester at Kearsarge Regional High School. We will close this term with a continued focus toward demonstrating proficiency in course competencies. While teachers will be closing the term with a final assessment in their course, we do not plan to provide a vastly alternative schedule. The semester will end on Friday, January 17th. Report cards will be available to download on the parent portal by Friday, January 24.
Students who are passing all course competencies (and the course overall) may be exempt from school for the makeup/remediation. Students should discuss the expectations for the course with their teachers and must have permission from a guardian or senior privilege form on file with the main office if they don't plan to be in school, or if they plan to leave following their exam.
You will find the assessment schedule in this newsletter. Note that our rotation may change in the event of a weather-related school closure.
Attention Seniors: On January 10th, students should have submitted their Resume, "Brag sheet," and a Post Secondary Reflection. These assignments are posted in Google Classroom and are also described in the Graduate Portfolio Handbook. Continue to make progress on your capstone project and elements add elements of your portfolio as they are completed.
Remember that it is a KRSD Graduation requirement to complete 20 hours of community service by the time you graduate. Families of those students in the graduating class of 2025 will be receiving letters if limited hours have been recorded at the school. Forms to submit community service can be found on the school website, and picked up in the Guidance Office. Completed forms should be turned in at the main office or guidance office to be logged.

Join us for an evening of Poetry on January 27th!
Kearsarge participates in the national Poetry Out Loud competition which is “a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Poetry Out Loud is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts, Poetry Foundation, and the state and jurisdictional arts agencies.” (poetryoutloud.org)
All are welcome to see our Kearsarge students perform two select poems. The competition starts in the classroom where grade-level winners are determined. Eligible students then compete at the school-wide level by reciting two poems in front of qualified judges. Participants work with a local poet, who helps contestants practice and improve their recitation. The winner moves on to the regional semi-final competition next month at New England College in Henniker and then to the NH Statehouse for states, and hopefully the national competition in Washington DC where students from across the country compete for scholarships. Good luck to all contestants!
SOCK DRIVE: KRHS Student's Capstone Project
Kira Gaunt, member of the class of 2025, is organizing a sock drive as part of her Capstone Project. Kira is collaborating with the Kearsarge Students Working on Community Outreach (SWOCO) club to address this often overlooked area of need. For her Capstone project Kira is focused on ways in which communities can support those in need, and the donations from her sock drive will go to LISTEN Community Services in Lebanon, NH.
This sock drive will have donation bins at all of the KRSD schools starting the week of December 16ht and will be accepting donations of new socks during December and January. Socks are often overlooked, but they are one of the most requested items at shelters, and having access to clean, warm socks can make a significant difference in a person’s health and comfort during the cold months. Having limited access to socks increases the risk of frostbite, blisters, infections, ulcers, and fungal infections. Please consider supporting Kira and SWOCO's efforts to address this need in our communities.
