This course exposes students to the time period of 1945 to present day and focuses on the impact of global competition on the lives of Americans. Students will study domestic and international changes that result from social, cultural, and geopolitical shifts in power. Topics of study will include: the Cold War, Civil Rights, international alliances, globalization, international and domestic terrorism, technological advances, the U.S. involvement in the Middle East, and contemporary social changes. This course emphasizes connecting events of the second half of the 20th Century to contemporary American life and demonstrates the importance of understanding the past and its impact on the contemporary world. The study of New Hampshire history is embedded within this course by investigating the role of New Hampshire and its citizens in this dynamic period including the state’s contributions to technological advancement and political change.
