June 6, 2018,
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:
I am very excited for the up and coming AP Psychology course for the 2018 – 2019 school year. AP Psychology is a popular introductory college level course that many students enjoy. Since this is a demanding course, it is essential that we begin with some readings on a variety of topics and two “class” books that details the complexity of the brain and delve into psychology’s master theorists.
Summer studies include the following reading assignments. You will need to purchase two books to read and reflect on during the summer. I suggest purchasing used texts through amazon.com or borrowing the listed texts from your local library. Change Your Brain, Change Your Life by Daniel G. Amen, Ivan Pavlov,Exploring the Animal Machine,by Daniel Todes.
After reading Change Your Brain, Change Your Life and the Ivan Pavlov books you are required to write a 1 page reflection paper for each text. Reflection papers describe your feedback on the content of the reading. The easiest way to cover this in a one-page reflection is to 1. Summarize the book, 2. Reflect on one aspect of content provided using support from the book, and 3. Conclude with your opinion of the content described. Students will then research the controversial topic of Nature vs. Nurture you are required to write a 5 page informational/ persuasive paper that describes the main focus/ topic examined.
Due Dates: You will find rubrics enclosed/ attached in your summer studies packet.
Both Reflection Essays: Tuesday, July, 17th, 2018 - Due to www.turnitin.com (Class ID and welcome code are found on my website!)
Research Essay: August 8th, 2018 - Due to www.turnitin.com
I look forward to the new school year ahead and wish you all well this summer as you begin your studies. You will find rubrics enclosed / attached in your summer studies packet. If you need assistance please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at (croddy@kearsarge.org).
Have a wonderful and safe summer.
