The Lincoln Tiger’s boys swim team dove their way through an exciting season. Each member brings unique strengths to the pool. While they are one of the smaller teams, they are still a strong group that can pull their weight and strive for perfection.
From thrilling victories to personal bests, the season was filled with highlights. Coach Meyer was very excited to get a chance to display his team’s accomplishments and strong sportsmanship.
“We focus on goal setting and looking at where we were in the last meet,” Meyer said.
Our athletes outdid themselves with setting new personal records in multiple meets and events. Thaddeus Richard, sophomore, said he had a personal goal of making state cuts.
Members were excited to share their opinions and experiences from their time on the team. Liam Barnard, sophomore, created PR’s in the events 100 breast and 100 free.
“It’s something I always want to push myself to be better at because it’s something I enjoy and want to see myself grow in,” said Barnard.
While swimming can be seen as more individual competitions, teamwork is one of their strongest qualities and our swimmers are a very close knit group.
However, the season wasn’t without hurdles. Sickness tested the team’s resilience.
“Covid went through our whole team at one point,” Meyer said. “That really slowed down the season when we should’ve been practicing our hardest.”
While the team is smaller than our more popular sports, there are still big things to come.
As our Tigers advance through the season we can look forward to next year.
“I think we can even expect to see some of our swimmers qualify for state next season,” Meyer said. “That has been a really big motivator for our swimmers.”
With hopeful anticipation for next year the team is confident they will come back stronger and faster. Despite these challenges, each was met with grit and determination, further strengthening the team’s bond and resolve. As the season has progressed, they showed vast improvement.
Ending the season, Richard said that through the hardships, “We persevered and did well as a team.”
Richard ended the season with an impressive state qualifying time of 24.08 in the 50m freestyle.
