What is a Dog trainer ?
A dog trainer is a professional who works with pet owners and their dogs. They often teach basic obedience commands, such as sit and stay. Also involves correcting animal behavior, easing separation anxiety and acclimating canines to new home situations. They can also train dogs for advanced commands and agility competitions. Types of dog trainers: Obedience and Behavior dog trainer, Police K9 trainer, Detection dog trainer, Protection dog trainer, Search and Rescue dog trainer, Service dog trainer.

However, some university provide courses related to animal science, behaviorism, or veterinary Science, which can provide a useful knowledge foundation for future dog trainers.

如何成為緝毒犬領犬員？
海關緝毒犬的領犬員不限於科系，對領犬工作有興趣的關務人員就可以報名（要先通過關務人員特種考試成為關務人員），報名後由關務署緝毒犬培訓中心的訓練師評估是否適合成為領犬員。首要條件當然是喜愛狗狗，而且體能一定不能差。此外，平時訓練中仔細觀察狗狗的狀態，以及有足夠的耐心去教導犬隻發展成為優秀的緝毒犬，是一位領犬員應有的特質。

如何成為檢疫犬領犬員？
有養狗之相關經驗，樂於與狗相處者為佳招募流程及受訓。筆試內容包括對動植物防疫檢疫業務之認識及對犬隻生理、能力等之瞭解等，錄取後參加檢疫犬領犬員訓練，與所搭配之檢疫犬一同通過測試後與考核。工作內容為帶領檢疫犬於國際機場及港口、國際快遞貨物倉儲區或國際郵件處理中心，執行旅客行李、快遞貨物及國際郵包之偵測檢查，並須配合航班採日夜及假日輪班作業，此外，亦須負責檢疫犬在職訓練及犬隻的照顧等工作。
