Possible Virus or Contagion Notice

Yesterday afternoon, a parent reported that an XXXXX student was exhibiting XXX symptoms (ex: abdominal issues including severe diarrhea. )

While we do not believe the school is the source of the illness, we have taken precautionary measures including deep cleaning classrooms and common areas. Additionally, hand sanitizers have been placed in every classroom and staff have specifically educated students on effective hand-washing practices in their classes.

Public health officials remind us that effective hand washing is the best way to avoid transmission of illness. We encourage all families to review the attached hand washing techniques and contact the school nurse if they have any questions or concerns.

When To Wash Hands:

  • Before, during, and after preparing food
  • Before eating food
  • Before and after caring for someone who is sick Before and after treating a cut or wound
  • After using the toilet
  • After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
  • After handling pet food or pet treats
  • After touching garbage

How to Wash Hands:

  • Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap
  • Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Be sure to lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails
  • Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds
  • Rinse your hands well under clean, running water
  • Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them

Thank you for helping us keep our students healthy,

We care about the health of each and every student. When we work together with families, we help keep children healthy. There is a wealth of information for parents on how they can take basic steps to protect their children at CDC.gov. Parents can visit k12northstar.org for tips on effective hand washing.
