The haumana in the ALO program practiced riding their hōlua during the ALO 2024 Fall Retreat at Kahuku Ranch.
The ALO Program hosted the Makahiki event at Pāhoa High and Intermediate school, where PHIS students had the opportunity to play various traditional Hawaiian games including Heʻe Hōlua. ALO students ensured the safety of participating students while teaching them how the activities worked.
The ALO Program also took their hōlua to other makahiki events around the island, including Kaʻū and Laupahoehoe. Here, volunteers helped students from different schools learn how to ride the hōlua.
