Waiakahi'ula is an ahupua'a on Hawai'i island that goes from the area known as Pahoa Village down to the bottom of Hawaiian Beaches. "Waiakahi'ula" means "the place where the water runs red", named for the reddish hue in the streams along the cliffs in the area during ho'oilo (the wet season).
Waiakahi'ula Beach Park
Previously known as "Kahakai Beach Park", the area was renamed with the intention to honor the rich cultural history of the old Hawaiian fishing village of Waikahi'ula. The park contains remnants of the fishing village, including agricultural sites, the foundation of a house, and an auhā (canoe shed).
