Curcuma longa
ʻŌlena (“yellow” in Hawaiian), so named for the bright orange-yellow color of its rhizome, was revered by the Polynesians and ancient Hawaiians for its mana — its life force or spiritual power — and was used to cleanse and purify people, physical spaces, and objects.
Medicinal Purposes and Uses:
'Ōlena has many medicinal Purposes. Eating them is good for diabetes and other diseases and can take care of skin care killing skin fungi. This plant can even be used as yellow dye, and when boiled can be made into tea. It's even used for excorsim against evil.
Description:
Olena is a humble little root, about the size of an adult thumb, was probably one of the two dozen or so plants and brought to Hawaii by early Polynesian settlers
-It is found in the lower forest zone
-the sprouts come up into the spring and die down into the fall
-Belongs to the widely dispersed flora of Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Australia
Grow olena in an area that gets morning sun and no more than 25 percent shade. Can be regrown.

-Olena is a medical plant mashed raw with a stone pounder
-Olena root was also used as a source of dyes, for example a light yellow dye

in order to use the root you need to skin it, then blend in a processor. Strain out the pulp.
