Music at Judd
We are keen to encourage and support our students in the widest possible range of musical activities, both within and beyond the usual curricular music lessons. Many pupils are involved in musical activities on a weekly basis.
These include 4 Choirs, 2 Orchestras, String Orchestra, Wind Band, Brass group, Big Band, and Rockistry (an after-hours rock school). Regular concerts are given throughout the year. There are occasional small-scale concerts and a house music competition at which pupils of all ages are invited to play. Membership of all choirs, ensembles and orchestras is open to all pupils of the school, whether or not they have music lessons in school. This coming year we are going on a music tour in October, and will be staging a musical in the spring term. The music practice rooms and the recording facilities can be used with permission by both rock groups and classical ensembles.
There are many groups which may be particularly suited to sixth formers:
Judd Winds – Monday 1.10pm
Chamber Choir – Tuesday 3.50pm
Big Band – Tuesday 1.10pm
String Orchestra – Thursday 1.10pm
Symphony Orchestra – Thursday 3.50pm
School Choir – Friday 1.10pm
It is hoped to involve as many pupils as possible in music making at Judd and it would be helpful for the Head of Music to know, in advance, of those with musical experience (instrumental, choirs, etc.). Please contact Mrs Reilly at rreilly@judd.kent.sch.uk
The Judd School can provide tuition in the following instruments:
VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, DOUBLE BASS, FLUTE, OBOE, CLARINET, BASSOON, SAXOPHONE,
TRUMPET, HORN, TROMBONE, EUPHONIUM, TENOR HORN, TUBA, PIANO, ORGAN, PERCUSSION, DRUM KIT,
CLASSICAL GUITAR, ELECTRIC GUITAR, BASS GUITAR, HARP, CLASSICAL OR ROCK SINGING
Fees are £195.00 for ten half-hour lessons (Half a term’s notice is required, in writing, to terminate lessons) payable to the individual peripatetic teacher. Some instruments are available for hire from the school, and advice can be given on purchasing an instrument by the peripatetic teacher.
Lessons take place during the school day, though sixth formers lessons are usually scheduled during their free periods. To apply for peripatetic music lessons please complete the online form.
