Recommended Activities for Prospective Y12 English Literature Students

Dear Students,

Welcome to English Literature A Level at The Judd School. We know many of you are eager to use the time between now and September fruitfully. To that end, we have put together a number of things you can do.

At Judd, we follow the Edexcel course and study the following books: Dracula or Beloved, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Streetcar Named Desire, English Romantic Verse, Hamlet or Twelfth Night. You will need to provide your own copies.

We use the following editions within the department, and clean exam copies will be provided by us:

English Romantic Verse: ISBN 978-0-140-42102-6

Dracula by Bram Stoker: ISBN 978-1-85326-086-5

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde: ISBN 978-1-85326-015-5

Beloved by Toni Morrison: ISBN 978-0099511656

A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams: ISBN 978-0-141-19027-3

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare: ISBN 978-1-85326-010-0

Poems of The Decade Forward Poetry Anthology: ISBN 978-0-571-32540-5

We recommend that you read the prose texts and A Streetcar Named Desire prior to September so that you are familiar with the work in order to be able to engage with the course effectively from lesson one.
