This course is an introduction to Spanish, with emphasis on vocabulary acquisition and basic conversational skills. There will be an introduction to geo-political & cultural lifestyles of Spanish speaking peoples. Development of beginning grammar will be covered, including basic descriptions, and simple present & past tenses, asking & answering questions. Practice listening skills. This course taken on 9th grade campus.

Students will continue to expand their Spanish vocabulary for normal daily activities and situations. Grammar skills will expand to include narrative in past and present time frames plus basic commands. Students will develop conversational skills related to daily activities and extracurricular interests. Students will continue to improve listening comprehension skills and to gain insight into differences between American and Spanish-speaking cultures. Students coming into this course at the Novice Mid or Novice High Proficiency Levels may expect to progress to Intermediate Low.
COURSE NOTES: Students who intend to take the minimum two years of foreign language should consider this course.

Students coming into this course at the Novice Mid or Novice High Proficiency Levels may expect to progress to Intermediate Low.

Development toward Intermediate Level (per ACTFL Proficiency standards) with: increased vocabulary to facilitate more complex descriptions of opinions, concepts, and situations; production of narratives, including use of command forms, subjunctive and compound verb tenses in complex grammatical structures; development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through much practice.

Students in this fourth-year class will continue the extensive practice of all modes of communication, exploration or more complex grammar structures, and development of more abstract vocabulary. Students will practice all portions of the AP test as past tests become available. Students entering this course at or about the Intermediate Mid proficiency level may reasonably expect to advance to the Intermediate High level.
COURSE NOTES: Students who enroll in AP Spanish Language are expected to take the corresponding AP exam.
Students taking the AP exam have the opportunity to earn college credit.
