What is the Jaguar Academy?
The Jaguar Academy is an honor’s program that promotes academic and personal achievement at the secondary level. Teachers in the areas of world history and literature collaborate to give students added support and mentor students throughout their sophomore year. Students who are college-driven, internally motivated, respectful, and strive for academic success should consider enrolling in this prestigious program. This is great preparation for International Baccalaureate (IB) students.
Benefits of enrollment:
∙ Students will learn academic skills that will help them in future AP, IB, Concurrent Enrollment, and any other higher-level classes
∙ Students collaborate with others who have the same academic drive and motivation ∙ Students receive academic support and additional mentoring from Jaguar Academy teachers ∙ Students learn advanced skills in reading, writing, research, and experimentation ∙ Students learn time management and organizational skills
∙ Student learn good study habits and retention skills
∙ Students have the option of receiving college credit by taking (and passing) the AP World History test at the end of the school year*
∙ Students have the opportunity to attend optional field studies*
Requirements:
∙ The Jaguar Academy is a full-year commitment. Students are contractually obligated to maintain good grades, sustain their academic drive, and behave maturely in the classroom. If students are unable to maintain these standards, they may be put on academic and/or behavioral probation, and/or dismissed from the program.
Contact information:
The Jaguar Academy teachers meet regularly to discuss student achievement, monitor student progress, discuss behavior interventions, and/or make decisions that will increase the academic success of our students. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to contact one of the following instructors:
Elaine Grant (AP World History): elaine.grant@jordandistrict.org
Natalie Nielsen (Honor’s Language Arts): natalie.nielsen@jordandistrict.org
*The AP test and field studies are optional in nature, so there are additional fees associated with them. Students will be informed of these fees at the beginning of the school year. Fee waivers will be handled pursuant to Jordan School District policy AA408 and fundraisers will be made available.
