Cheryl Johnson and Jim Wildman create dynamic planes of color and texture; bold and singular marks cross and intersect swathes of paint. These two diverse artists present us with a paradox. The lines and marks become gestures and offer themselves to the viewer in a quick motion and connect us to a thought or idea; perhaps remote relics of some past occurrence. In contrast, the rapid brush-marks invite an energy of anticipation.

We are compelled to view works as both instantaneous, representational, and abstract; yet historical – marking a place in time. Abstracts become landscapes. Marks become land. Gestures evolve into forests. Together Cheryl and Jim approach each new surface as a stage for creativity, passion, and change.

This contradictory approach the viewer finds thrilling; wondering if behind the veil of color there is an illusion of both inner and outer space. One can see the enormity of an ocean, the mystery of the night sky, or the intensity of light piercing darkness.

JW's practice operates across the registers of painting, drawing, sculpture, moving images, and unusual 3D works created with the utilization of CO2 Laser that could be called a technology-enhanced wood block. Cheryl Johnson and Jim Wildman are American abstract artists known for their eclectic styles and large paintings

With their pioneering methods utilizing laser and their unique ability to customize, scale and color their work, Johnson Wildman have successfully chiseled out a niche within the art and design industry.

From originals paintings to mix-media and limited editions, Johnson Wildman offers multiple ways to acquire these two artist’s exciting work.

All artworks on JohnsonWildman are original, signed, delivered directly from the artist's studio, and come with a certificate of authenticity.

CHERYL JOHNSON AND JIM WILDMAN are a new breed of landscape artists who paint monumental canvases showing the majesty of the American landscape; showing the power of nature and the feelings of the sublime it evokes in the viewer. Their current works are often heavily focused on cloud formations.

“We create our landscapes so that you feel part of the moment –so you can be in them,” the artist, Cheryl Johnson has remarked. “That’s why we continually change and alter each work added Jim Wildman. They change just as the weather does and then when the storm is finished we stop. Environmental activists concerned with climate change, both are passionate nature lovers and believe deeply in its spiritual power. We love trees and chose the Oaktree to represent us.

“If someone looks into the sky and then interprets my work as an attempt to see inside and be moved to look outside themselves or see themselves as part of nature I’m happy to have encouraged that”, concluded Cheryl.
