New volleyball team head coach, Alyx Carter, has brought a new level of energy to the team while building on the strong foundation already in place with the volleyball program. Here is what Coach Alyx had to say about the season so far.
How is your first season as head coach going?
It is going very well and everyone has been very supportive. I feel like everyone on the team has accepted the new culture we are trying to create here and we have all gotten very close. That is all you can really ask for as a coach.
What has been your favorite moment with the team so far this year?
My favorite moment so far has been after the first match of the year because we just had come off a very bad jamboree and I feel like even though we played a pretty good team, we held our composure and played us.
What has been the biggest challenge so far this season?
The greatest challenge has been focus. It is really easy for players to become distracted with their social lives, school, people not involved in volleyball, etc. So, I think it has been pretty hard to keep the negative out and not let the haters keep you down.
What are you looking forward to most this season?
What I am looking forward to the most is seeing how we finish this year. I do not want us to plato, I want to continue to climb and see how we handle the second half and push.
Sophomore, Ina Smith, was named Volleyball Player of the Week on Geaux Preps on September 13, 2023. Here is what Ina had to say about the experience.
How does it feel to be player of the week?
It feels great because I have been putting in a lot of hard work on and off of the court that ended up paying off.
What are you looking forward to this season?
What I am looking forward to the most is winning state this volleyball season.
What has been your favorite moment of this season?
My favorite moment so far this season has been our team bonding at Coach Alyx’s house and playing games.
Who motivates you the most?
My mother motivates me the most because she has always been very supportive and she also played volleyball in college before she had me. It feels good to make her proud and follow in her footsteps.
Sophomore, Alyzia' Cola- Grayson, was named Volleyball Player of the Week on AVCA on September 11, 2o23. Here is what Alyzia had to say about the experience.
How does it feel to be player of the week?
It felt great to be recognized as player of the week.
What are you looking forward to this season?
I am looking forward to continuing to win games, work hard, and hopefully win state!
What has been your favorite moment of this season?
My favorite moment of the season was definitely our win against Country Day because it showed that we're always going to fight until the end and it shows how much energy we have when we come together as a team.
Who motivates you the most?
My mom probably motivates me the most because she always pushes me to be better even when I do not want to hear it or when I do not want to work out. Nia Washington is also a big motivator because I see her doing great things by playing volleyball for Ole Miss and it makes me want to be better so I can get to that level and hopefully motivate other people.
