MTV held its first Video Music Awards in 1984. Reporter Eric Ditzian said, "Times Square was a neon-shrouded dump as MTV invaded Radio City Music Hall for the first ever Video Music Awards" MIchael Jackson was the first to take the stage that night, and he won three moon man trophies for the infamous song "Thriller". After the first year, MTV decided to expand to film the live show in different cities such as Los Angeles, London, and Miami. The 2023 VMAs were held in Newark, New Jersey, on September 12, 2023, and music fans all across the world tuned in to the live show.
