helpful ACT Tips From Dr. Patriot:
If you don't know the answer, come back to it, spending too much time on one question won't help you and will make your time go down!
If you don't know the answer, start by marking the definite wrong ones and go from there!
Use official ACT practice tests to familiarize yourself with the format and timing. This will help you get used to the types of questions you'll encounter and improve your pacing!
Focus on your Weak Areas! Identify the subjects or question types that challenge you the most and dedicate extra time to improving in those areas. This can lead to significant score improvements!
Stay calm on test day, arrive early, bring all necessary materials, and take deep breaths to help manage anxiety.
Use process of elimination! If you know for sure an answer isn't right then don't put it and scratch it out!
Individual Subject Tips:
Math Tips- Familiarize yourself with the math components on the ACT! These include Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and basic statistics. If you want to study in detail, know key formulas such as those for area, volume, and the Pythagorean theorem.
English Tips- Avoid run-ons and fragments. Don't place commas before or after prepositions. Avoid comma splices. Colons must always follow complete sentences!
Reading Tips- Use process of elimination. Skip the question if it is too hard and go back to it if you have time at the end! Try to use the questions that refer you back to certain lines of each passage, those tend to be easier. Underline key words in the passage!
Science Tips- Know Passage types and structures. Mark up charts and passages and underline key words. Work on pacing yourself! Focus on practicing how to read and analyze scientific data. This includes understanding trends, comparing data points, and drawing conclusions from data and graphs!
Good luck on the ACT!
You are going to do great!
