One Monday morning in April is "Passport/Medications Morning." All students MUST bring their passport, KITAS, a copy of their insurance card (if providing private insurance), and any special medications to the Bali Stage grass area between 6:45 and 7:45 am. You may bring these items, or you may send them with your child. Medication needs to be in the original packaging and should be placed in a plastic/ziplock bag clearly labelled with the student's name, ID number, and Grade level. Together with a signed JIS medication authorization form with clear instructions on dosage and frequency.
Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) does not provide travel insurance for students participating in ESP. JIS has established agreements with a global medical emergency response and evacuation provider to ensure that all students receive immediate medical treatment and, if necessary, emergency evacuation to Jakarta. These services include payment guarantees and direct invoicing to the school, ensuring that no student is denied urgent medical care while on a school trip.
Parent Financial Responsibility:
Parents/guardians accept full financial responsibility for any medical expenses incurred by their child during the trip, including but not limited to:
Medical consultations, hospital treatment, and medications
Emergency evacuation and repatriation
Any additional medical costs
Parents/guardians must ensure that their child has either:
A valid travel insurance policy that includes medical coverage, emergency evacuation, and the activities listed above OR
A private international health insurance plan that provides medical coverage abroad, and includes all of the activities above OR
Sufficient personal funds to cover potential medical expenses directly.
Each trip leader will keep you well-informed throughout the ESP week. Please go to the "Communication Centre" for updates.
JIS has all of our locations, site maps, itineraries, contact numbers and local emergency services on file with our own administration, the JIS Risk Management Team, and the Fullerton Medical Response team.
Each trip has a different communication system and parents will be well informed as to what that system is. If an emergency arises there is a system in place to deal with both the emergency and the communication process to ensure responses can be efficient and those parties impacted are informed.
Each trip has an emergency action plan (EAP) in place. The details of each EAP are located in the Standard Operating Procedures. All EAPs are formed in conjunction with Fullerton International.
All trips serve a combination of local and some western food. Students can expect to eat local meals such as fried rice, fried noodles, steamed rice with assorted dishes, local fruits and sweets. Some trips serve fish and seafood depending upon the location and availability of these items. All trips will have vegetarian alternatives during each meal. Students can bring a small amount of "snack" type food with them on ESP. Please limit this to healthy snacks and limit the quantity of food.
Drinking water is from bottled water and students must assume the responsibility for filling their own water bottle.
JIS does not accept responsibility for loss of or damage to personal property while on the trip. Parents are advised that students should not bring high-value electronic devices on the trip, as staff cannot guarantee that these items can be secured during activities.
Students are to follow school swimming rules and bathing suit requirements. If a student chooses a two-piece suit, a swim shirt must be worn on top. Swim shirts are advised on all trips. Hats are also required! If you have purchased, or will purchase, any equipment (especially footwear) please ensure that you try/use the equipment prior to ESP to ensure it works, fits and is user-friendly to your child. This includes throw-away cameras, flashlights, gloves, leech socks, snorkelling equipment, dive suits, etc. Shoes must be well broken in prior to ESP. Although many students would like a new wardrobe for this adventure, we prefer a more low-impact approach to ESP attire. Expensive branded clothes and state-of-the-art equipment are NOT necessary and become problematic on trips as students typically do not want to ruin them or even get them dirty. All clothing needs to be appropriate in length (no short shorts!) and modest (out of respect for our host country). Following the regular JIS school day dress code is the best option.
Trip t-shirt
Solid color long or capri length pants
Clean, closed-toed footwear
Strictly forbidden! Because ESP is an experience in independent living as well as adventure, students are not allowed to call their parents during the week. We ask that parents do not call or visit students at any of the ESP sites. All relevant contact numbers will be listed for parents prior to departure. Students may not bring any devices other than a camera (not a camera phone). Should there be an emergency, please contact Aimee Cleary or the MS Office.
We only travel by approved airlines and use Blue Bird bus services wherever practical. Safety records are checked/screened for any/all ferry companies. All sites are located within Indonesia.
The cost of ESP has already been included in your child's tuition. It is a compulsory part of the curriculum and is linked to academic learning in classroom.
In the case of an ESP cancellation being necessary, refunds will not be available.
