The River is a tribute to many of the animals - four legged, winged or scaled - that are native to Edmonton’s beloved river valley, specifically near the University of Alberta, located on traditional papaschase territory. It is about reclaiming Indigeous knowledge and languages, featuring the nehiyaw words for each animal. The water, land and animals were here before any of us. Part of being a treaty person is understanding our shared relationship with and responsibility of stewardship to the natural world.
