Stories that Weave Us discusses religion, which can be controversial, particularly in schools where religious diversity is very evident. However, can religion be discussed in a way that does not endorse beliefs and values for the purpose of spiritual fulfillment, but rather as an integral process of getting to know, respect and understanding all the communities in our society? The following Call To Action calls on us to do just that.
There are numerous stereotypes attached to different religions. These stereotypes and misunderstandings lead to a fear and distancing from one another. An organization who has mandated getting to know, respect and celebrate the various faith systems is the Edmonton Interfaith for Education and Action.
Show the below video from The Edmonton Interfaith for Education and Action that highlights the beauty of religious diversity in Edmonton and how they have and continue to contribute to building community.
Ask students to pay attention to the different religions included in this video.
