"Start with stories that need telling"
The main image depicts a grandmother whose shawl turns into a giant wing, surrounding and protecting the people as they return to their homes safely. Incorporated into this scene are two national symbols of this injustice: the reDress project and Angel Way sign post. Both are part of larger initiatives to use art and public installations to respond to the reality of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG2S) in Canada.
“When we talk about this issue, it is so critical that we take the time to keep the memories of those we lost alive, and voices of survivors and families at the forefront. That is why days of awareness, remembrance, and action are important. We cannot forget about these injustices and that we all have a role to play in bringing an end to this ongoing tragedy.” Assembly of First Nations Alberta Regional Chief Marlene Poitras
