The human rights crisis of Missing, Murdered and Exploited Indigenous People is a national crisis. It is each of our responsibilities to educate ourselves and to bring awareness to this growing tragedy. Their Voices will Guide Us Student and Youth Engagement Guide is an important resource, created by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. It provides age appropriate ways to start important conversations through understanding the many root causes that contribute to violence against Indigenous Peoples. It provides background information, resources and calls to action for educators.
Have students interact with the Beyond 94 CBC website to see the progress of TRC.
This website is a great visual of where we are at with The TRC, with explanations. Go over the website together as a class. Then have students look into the calls to action. This can be a great in-class research project and a great way to introduce students to the TRC action calls.
The Moosehide Campaign is a national education effort to raise profile, bring awareness and bring an end to violence against women and children. This educational platform was built to provide information, tools, pathways and lesson plans to “engage teachers and students to find the moral courage, integrity and confidence to embark on their own personal learning journey about the truths for Indigenous women and children, and all women and children, in this country related to violence and discrimination.”

To the left is a short, 5 minute video about the history of residential schools and the beginning of Truth and Reconciliation. It's easily digestible by students and serves as a great launching off point to begin discussions about either topic.
