Jeppe High School for Boys has aligned its Subject Change Policy with the National Protocol on Assessment issued by the Gauteng Department of Education, the essence of which is recorded below:
Subject changes in Grade 11 and 12 must be avoided, unless absolutely necessary.
Subject changes may only be effected once the school has received the written consent of parents/guardians.
A learner may only change from one subject to another provided that all work in the subject his is dropping is up to date.
A learner may change a maximum of two subjects in Grade 10, subject to the approval of the principal of the school.
The closing date for subject changes is to be determined by the School Assessment Co-ordinator, but must be completed by no later than one week after the second term reports have been issued.
A learner may change two subjects in Grade 11, subject to the approval of the principal.
The learner’s name, personal particulars, as well as the old and new subject must be listed for audit purposes.
The principal must acknowledge receipt of the subject change request and communicate all new timetable details to the learner.
The principal must keep a record of the following supporting documents:
A letter of motivation from the parents indicating the reason for the request, as well as the learner’s chosen career path.
A letter from the principal supporting or declining the request to change, with reasons listed.
A letter from the teacher of the new subject, outlining the programme to be followed to catch up the assessments from the previous term(s) or grade.
Copies of the learner’s Grade 10 report cards
The closing date for subject changes is to be determined by the School Assessment Co-ordinator, but must be completed by no later than one week after the second term reports have been issued.
An alphabetical list of learners who applied for subject changes is to be submitted to the district office the following week.
In November of the Grade 11 year all Grade 11 candidates will be required to complete Annexure A and Annexure B for the GDE. Only in exceptional circumstances will a learner be allowed to make ONE subject change before completing these documents, provided he has not made two other subject changes during the course of the year. These documents finalise each learner’s subjects for the Grade 12 year. Once these documents are submitted to the GDE in November, no further subject changes are permitted.
No subject changes are permitted. Subjects are finalised in November of the previous year.
