ANSWER: No, however, you have the opportunity to improve your Maths mark in Term 3 and the November exams. If you improve sufficiently you will be allowed to re-select subjects.
QUESTION: If I select Maths Lit now, can I change to Core Maths in Grade 10 or 11 if my Maths mark improves?
ANSWER: No.
QUESTION: Can I change all 3 of my elective subjects in Grade 10 or 11?
ANSWER: You may change 2 subjects in Grade 10 and 2 subjects in Grade 11. You may not change any subjects in Grade 12.
QUESTION: Can I take Core Maths and Maths Literacy together?
ANSWER: No. This option is available only to schools writing the IEB.
QUESTION: Can I pick up Accounting/Physical Sciences/IT if my core Maths mark improves in Grade 10 or 11?
ANSWER: In Grade 10, generally no, unless your Core Maths marks is above 70%.
In Grade 11, there is too much application work to catch-up in these subjects, so you may not pick them up in Grade 11.
QUESTION: How do I qualify to take an additional elective subject?
ANSWER: A learner with an overall term average above 75% may apply to take an additional subject.
QUESTION: If I take an additional subject will it improve my APS?
ANSWER: No. Only the top 3 elective marks count towards an APS. Unless you are able to achieve a distinction in an additional subject you should not take one.
QUESTION: How do I know if I can take Further Studies in Maths or Further Studies in English?
ANSWER: Learners who have an average Mathematics or English mark of 80% qualify for Further Studies courses. Learners will receive a letter of invitation if they qualify for an Advanced Studies course.)
