Bear Essentials

January 19, 2022, Issue #21

Principal's Message

Dear Brown School family,

The construction crew has been hard at work installing our new auditorium seats! If you have ever sat in our auditorium, you likely remember how uncomfortable and squeaky our old wooden seats were. I sat in one of the new seats late last week and they are very comfortable and quiet.

In less than a month, we will have our finished auditorium back. Our first scheduled event is our Annual Black History Program! We are hoping to repeat the program three times, once for each school level in order to facilitate social distancing.

I want to extend a special congratulations to Nick Neagle and Tatum Ballard. They are our first ever student members of our SBDM Council. I'm excited about having them on the council and the opportunity to amplify student voice in our decision making.

Love,

Dr. Angela

COVID Quarantine Procedures

Please note that JCPS continues to follow our previous guidelines on students for quarantine due to COVID. Although the CDC shared new guidance, we are awaiting protocols from the Kentucky Department of Public Health to determine how the state might require schools to implement any new rules. Until we receive this from the state, we will continue to follow the existing guidance of a ten day quarantine for those who test positive. Please review the current guidelines below.

  • For students who test positive, they will quarantine for 10 calendar days starting from the day after either the positive test or the onset of symptoms, whichever comes first.

  • For students who are identified as close contacts of individuals who have tested positive, they will quarantine for 10 calendar days starting the day after exposure. These students will have the opportunity to participate in the Test to Stay program, which would enable them to return to school with a negative COVID test from the previous school day.

If and when procedures are updated, the district and our school will communicate accordingly.

Athletics

Winter Sports:

Swim/Dive Team

High School diving had a great day at the Rock the Block meet on Saturday 1/15. Daphne Powell finished an amazing 2nd place and Maisie Smith finished 13th. Great job ladies!!

Our Divers will head to the UofL Natatorium for the Sacred Heart Splash on Friday. Good luck Bears!

Bowling Team

Our bowling team will keep practicing and improving until we host Regionals next weekend at Ten Pin. Go Bowling Bears!!

Archery

Archery has taken some time off while we were in NTI, but will get back to practice this week, as they prepare for the Sacred Heart shoot on 1/30.

Basketball

Middle school basketball picked up 2 bigs wins against Western last Thursday. Both teams have shown a lot of improvement this season, as we get ready for post season in a few weeks.

High School basketball heads to Collegiate this Friday for a double header. The girls play at 6:00 and the boys at 7:30.

Elementary Basketball/Cheer

The elementary basketball team has started practice and are looking forward to playing games the end of this month. Games have been pushed back due to NTI.

We are very sorry to say, but since we had very limited response for cheer and no coaching volunteers, we will take this year off in hopes to have a team next season. Hopefully those students that wanted to cheer will come to the games and cheer our team on!!

*All student-athletes must complete weekly Covid testing and have all eligibility paperwork turned in before they can participate. Those forms can be found on the athletic page of mybrownschool.org, under eligibility documents, or in our main office.

**All winter athletes must be tested during NTI. Tests must be done at a JCPS drive through site, or if it is done at the doctor, you must submit the results. No home tests can be used for test to play.
