Back to School Eve - August 10, 2021, Special Edition

Principal's Message

Dear Brown School family,

I hope you are excited as much as I am about school starting tomorrow! It was great seeing so many of you today at our Meet & Greet. I want to thank our wonderful PTSA volunteers who worked our school merchandise table. I can't wait to see our students this Friday wearing their new Brown School attire on our first spirit day of the year.

Kindergarten parents, please share this video of me and my dog Eevee reading the book The Night Before Kindergarten with your child tonight. We can't wait to greet your little cub tomorrow on their very first day of school!

See you bright and early tomorrow morning! School starts at 8:00 AM.

Love,

Dr. Angela

This Week's Essentials

Morning Drop Off

Morning Drop-Off begins at 7:30 AM. Please note that parents/caregivers will not be allowed in the building on school days.

Students Being Dropped-Off by Other Drivers

  • Families will pull their cars either through the back alley of the school or along S. First Street. Families with elementary students are highly encouraged to drop-off in the alley; school staff will be available to help your child from the car and guide them directly into the gym. Elementary students being dropped off on S. First Street will need to be able to exit the vehicle themselves and direct themselves to the gym.

Students Who Drive and Their Passengers

  • Students who drive to school will park their cars in the designated area in the parking garage and will enter the school via the pedway. Due to the ongoing renovation in our building, any student arriving after 8:00 AM will need to walk around to the S. First Street door to enter the school. (The electronic door opening software is not currently working on the pedway.)

Students Who Ride TARC

  • Students who ride TARC to school will report to the S. First Street entrance.

Information for all Students After Entering the Building

Middle and high school students with 1st block classes on the first floor and the basement will wait along the walls in the lobby. MS/HS students with1st block classes on the second floor will wait along the walls in the 2nd floor hallways. MS/HS students with 1st block classes on the 3rd floor will wait along the walls in the 3rd floor hallways. Elementary students will report to the gym. Students wishing to eat breakfast will go directly to the cafeteria. Students will be socially distanced 3’ when practicable.

Other Information

  • Additional masks and hand sanitizer will be available at all entrances. Students will be encouraged to use hand sanitizer upon entry.

  • Breakfast will be available for free, for students who choose, in the cafeteria of the school.

  • If a student arrives late for school the parent/caregiver must walk their student to the main Brown School entrance.

Afternoon Dismissal

Dismissal from our building begins at 2:40 PM. Please note that parents/caregivers will not be allowed in the building on school days.

We are using a staggered dismissal process to eliminate congestion in the hallways. All students must be picked up from school by 3:00 PM.

Back Alley Pickup

  • Elementary students will be escorted to the gymnasium at 2:38 PM to prepare for dismissal. Older students with elementary siblings will be sent from class to the gymnasium at 2:38 PM to meet their sibling for dismissal.

  • Cars will line up in the back alley of the school with the car rider displayed on the rearview mirror.

  • Students will be escorted out the doors to load cars in the back alley starting at about 2:45 PM.

Students Who Drive and Their Passengers, and Students Who Ride TARC

  • Older students with elementary siblings will be sent from class to the gymnasium at 2:38 PM to meet their sibling for dismissal.

  • Student drivers and TARC riders will be dismissed from our school building first via a PA announcement after the tone sounds ending the school day at 2:40 PM.

S. First Street Pickup

  • Middle/high school students being picked up on S. First Street will be dismissed by floors. Students on the first floor and basement will be dismissed at 2:41 PM. Students on the 2nd floor will be dismissed at 2:42. Students on the 3rd floor will be dismissed at 2:44. This will help alleviate congestion of students in the hallways. Students will need to immediately exit the building and board vehicles.

Elementary “Walkers” Being Picked Up by Others

  • Parents, caregivers, and older siblings who wish to pick up elementary “walkers” can do so at door #16 on Muhammad Ali Blvd. (This is the door under the blue awning.) Parents, caregivers, and older siblings will present the car rider tag to staff stationed at that door and students will be handed off to the person picking them up. Students will not be permitted to exit that door to walk to an adult waiting in a vehicle.
