Weeks 16 & 17: 12/5-12/16

Weeks 16 & 17: 12/5-12/16

During these last 2 weeks, we’ve continued to make lots of choice art using materials at the Drawing Center, 3-D Art Center and Fiber Arts Center. Students have used markers, drawing pencils, colored pencils, charcoal to make really interesting original creations. Many have spent time making paper sculptures and friendship bracelets. During the week of 12/12, some students began watercolor painting.

ELC started to explore “Suminagashi” paper marbling, a form of Japanese paper marbling that uses only water and special ink. Students practiced dropping ink and dipping 4.5” x 6” cards. The technique takes some practice, which is what we did on 12/14-16. When we return from the break, we’ll use this technique to create “ocean paper”, which we’ll then use as a background for drawings or simple flipbooks.

The “Make Your Mark in Elementary Art” Poster is finished! See pics below of that + fun choice art from these past 4 weeks of Art.

We had our 2nd Elementary assembly on Thursday, 12/15. The ELC gave a thrilling performance of “Sea Song,” a children’s choral piece about the fun of sailing the sea. We chose this piece because it connects to the ELC’s year-long theme of “Oceans”. Several Bridges students served as emcees. Everyone sang “Best Day of My Life” at the end.
