Week 4: 9/6-9/9
Week 4: 9/6-9/9
All Elementary students are working on creating our annual community art project, Pinwheels for Peace in celebration of International Peace Day on Wednesday, 9/21. They are decorating simple, paper templates with their Advisors (due to current construction and our lack of an Art Room), creating text and images that evoke ideas about peace. We’ll construct the pinwheels with pencils and pushpins next week in the Music Room. Students will plant their pinwheels in our school-wide installation at our annual Peace Day Ceremony on Wednesday, 9/21 @ 9:30am in front of the school. -In Pre-K and Kindergarten, we are continuing to explore our singing voices (head voice), build a repertoire of simple songs (including Peace Like a River) and explore sound by conducting with scarves and creative dance.
-In ELC, we are beginning to work more deeply with beat, meter and rhythm through O Passo (The Walking Step, see: https://www.institutodopasso-en.org/). Students are identifying a strong foot that they will use to initiate O Passo. When students step, the moment that the foot touches the floor marks the location of the beat. This is called the ichtus. We are practicing clapping on the strong foot ichtus and the weak foot ichtus. Students are also practicing walking in-synch with each other.
-We had a sing-a-long while toasting marshmallows on Tuesday night up at Pickle Gulch!
-In Bridges, we are beginning to explore beat, meter, measure, and rhythm through O Passo (The Walking Step, see: https://www.institutodopasso-en.org/). We are working to perform a complex musical challenge called Alternated Measures: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhEesMVIBZo
