Week 1: 8/16-8/19

What a great first week of school. It was a delight to have students in music class these first few days! We are starting the year off with Music, which will continue until construction is complete and we are able to utilize the Elementary Art Room (it’s now being used by Foundations Advisors, who are displaced from their rooms due to construction.

Throughout the week and in all grades, we focused on creating a caring classroom culture by highlighting and practicing norms for entering the classroom, starting class, singing and playing pitched percussion instruments. We explored head voices (singing voice), matching pitch and meter. We celebrated the start of school with the song Welcome Back! Ask your child to teach it to you!

In addition to these activities,

-Pre-K sang the Alphabet Song, Twinkle Twinkle, and If You’re Happy and You Know It. We explored percussion instruments that we can strike or shake. Class ended with Freeze Dance.

-Kindergarten played My Musical Imagination where we listened to the Superman Theme by John Williams and created stories in our imagination.

-ELC and IA worked with Jumps in Time, a musical game where we explore beat and meter.

-IA and Bridges sang and started to analyze Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillip Phillips, and will create and rehearse Campfire Sing-a-long song lists for their upcoming camping trip.

-Bridges had their first drum circle on Thursday and Friday.
