Week 3: 8/29-9/2
Though we are in Music right now, Advising groups are starting an elementary-wide community art project titled “Pinwheels for Peace,” where students are making individual pinwheels in celebration of International Day of Peace on Wednesday, 9/21. These pinwheels will be part of a community art display in front of the school, to be installed at our Peace Day Ceremony on 9/21. More info will come out about that shortly.
-In Pre-K, we continued to develop our singing voices through vocal exploration, singing songs and using scarves to explore concepts like high/low and legato/staccato. We conducted several songs with scarves, such as La Mer by Debussy, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Tchaikovsky and Laudate Dominum by Mozart.
-In Kindergarten, we continued to develop our singing voices through vocal exploration, singing songs and using scarves to explore concepts like high/low and legato/staccato. We also began to explore drumming during several drum circles throughout the week.
-In ELC, we continued to explore the singing/partner game Sarasponda and rhythmic concepts like beat and meter through work with O Passo (The Walking Step, see: https://www.institutodopasso-en.org/).
-IA students rehearsed songs that we’ll sing around the campfire on next week’s IA Camping Trip. We practiced tapping a pulse on our laps, dividing the pulse with the other hand, playing simple rhythms on our laps and transferring those rhythms to drums while singing.
-In Bridges, students continued to provide a glimpse into their creative self during our show and tell sessions. On Wednesday and Thursday, we enjoyed eating some watermelon together at the end of class.
