Bootstraps Scholarships

Applications open January 1, 2024.  Click here for more information.

Attention Seniors!

Do you need money for college, trade school, or a certification program after high school? If your answer is YES, then you will want to apply for a Bootstraps scholarship or interest-free loan!

The following two applications are available:

· Traditional: use this application if you plan to attend college, university, or community college.

· Career & Technical Education programs: use this application if you plan on attending certification programs and trade schools.

Round 1 of both Bootstraps applications opens January 1 and closes January 31, 2024. As soon as you submit Round 1, you will be notified in 3 business days if you qualify for Round 2.

Items required for Round 1 of the Traditional and Career and Technical Education (CTE) applications:

· The Student Aid Report from FAFSA – the FAFSA application should open by December 31, 2023, so make sure you apply for your FSA ID so you can complete the FAFSA when it does open – please note that it can sometimes take up to two weeks to receive your Student Aid Report.

· The complete list of schools you have applied to or plan to apply to for next year.

· Your high school transcript (you can request it from your school in the application form).

Round 2 of the application will close February 16, 2024 – the sooner you complete Round 1 and are moved into Round 2, the more time you will have to complete Round 2. In 1945, a group of civic-minded citizens formed Evergreen Scholarship Association to recognize an outstanding graduating senior from Evergreen High School, then the only high school in the Evergreen-Conifer area. Donations from citizens, the high school PTA, and the Evergreen Women’s Club raised $11,000 in seed money. In the spring of 1946, the association awarded two $150.00 two-year scholarships. The number and amount of scholarships increased as contributions grew, and the organization continues to award scholarships in May of each successive year.

As many as 100 students apply for scholarships and interest-free loans from Bootstraps each year. Depending on the number of scholarships available that year, about 40 percent will receive an award.

All awards are funded by members of the community; people who donate their hard-earned money so that students in the community can pursue their educational dreams. To see a list of Bootstraps supporters, click here.

Scholarships range in value from $500 for one year to $24,000 for four years. Interest-free loans range from $1,000 to $3,500 for the first year of college. Each donor specifies the criteria for the award; therefore, requirements can change from year to year. Many of the awards can be used for vocational or technical training, in addition to two- and four-year colleges.

Students applying for awards complete a common application which makes the student eligible for the pool of awards. The Bootstraps Awards Committee determines which award(s) the applicant is eligible to receive.

You'll need to register with FAFSA for the Bootstraps application.  FAFSA opens up 10/1/20 and is first-come, first-served in financial aid opportunities.

Two Bootstraps applications are available:

Scholarships and Interest-Free Loans - each year we award approximately $225,000 in new and continuing scholarships and loans to the students in the mountain-area community. The majority of the scholarships are need-based.

CTE - Career Training Scholarships and Interest-Free Loans - we have funding to help students pay for CTE educations - please help us identify students who could benefit from this financial help.
