How do I know what to look for?
As you start thinking about which colleges to apply to, it's really important to check out colleges' websites and find out what they have to offer! Here are some questions you may want to ask as you browse through different schools:
Basics:
How many students attend this school?
How far away from home is it?
How diverse is the school?
Campus:
What type of setting is it in? (Big city, rural, etc)
What’s the weather like there?
How big is the campus/it is easy to get around?
What does the campus look like? How would you feel being on campus everyday?
Academics:
Do they offer the major(s) that I am interested in?
Social life:
Do students typically live on campus or commute?
What types of clubs and activities do they offer?
Is Greek Life (fraternities & sororities) a big part of the campus culture?
Cost:
What is the cost of tuition? (Keep in mind, most student don't pay the full tuition! You will find out how much it will cost YOU to attend the school after you have been accepted. In the meantime, try using a Net Price Calculator for a rough estimate).
How expensive is it to live in the city where the college is located?
How expensive will it be for me to travel between home and school? (For holidays & start/end of each school year)
