This week, we started an exciting new book in English called The Fluffy Squishy Itty Bitty. To start off our learning, we had a fantastic experience lesson on Monday with a special visitor: Abbie, a baker from Holtwhites bakery!
Abbie spoke to us about her job and showed us some of the special utensils she uses, like a laminator for making croissants. The children had so many brilliant questions for her.
Please ask your child to share a few facts they learned from Abbie!
We also had great fun decorating our own biscuits and tasting some delicious baked goods, including a fresh baguette straight from her bakery.
We also took a short walk to the shops on Lancaster Road, visiting the Co-op, Dallas and a florist. We were on a special mission to see if we could spot any squishy, fluffy, itty bitty items for sale to link back to our new book!
Next week, we will continue with our book, focusing heavily on using fantastic describing words. We are also putting a big focus on our handwriting, encouraging the children to show off their absolute best 'Lavender style writing' in their books.
Please remember to keep practising handwriting at home, too!
Next week, the children will practice answering reading questions in a test format before trying one independently on Thursday. Please see the two-page example below. We want to give everyone a chance to try a Year 2 paper, but simpler alternatives will be provided for those who need them.
Please have a go at some of these arithmetic questions.
This week, the children have continued with their bridge to spelling lessons.
Have a go at practising and spelling the following words:
liked scared danced hoped
liking scaring dancing hoping
Your child has been sent home with a new reading book and diary. Please encourage regular reading time together. These must be returned on Monday.

This half term we will be celebrating British Science Week. In order to build on the children’s excitement, we would like the children to conduct their own science experiments for their project. They have the freedom to choose and investigate what interests them and experiment mixing in a variety of ways. Please upload your child’s experiment onto Google Classroom. We look forward to seeing what your child comes up with! Please see the link on the left side if you would like some inspiration.
Your project is due on Monday 23rd March 2026.
